@mattih , as a fan of your channel/work and a fellow Toronto native and filmmaker, I just want to thank you for putting me on to @DannyGevirtz. I saw a podcast of yours featuring Danny where you called him "the best filmmaker on YouTube", and considering the filmmaking talent on YouTube, including yourself, I thought it was a pretty bold claim...until I saw his channel. I think you guys really didn't have to get bogged down by the "feature film cinematic process". You guys decided to listed to "cine crew" advice and not follow your gut or instincts. Danny did you lose control of the crew at any point? Seems like the hired crew took over and it wasn't your film anymore. Not trying to be negative. Cine crews will pick up on your experience and confidence level. Zack Snyder never gives up directing or DP control. You really don't have to chose one or the other.

Great content BUT you broke the golden rule of INDIE film making and #1 core component of what you and Danny have been preaching. That is "why did you rent big fat cine cameras when you could have use the Fx3 or R5C and got the same results? You also could have saved a ton of money between gear rental vs buying vs time to prep and shoot scenes. You and Danny know you shoot faster on a FX3 or R5C for various reasons.you/ reasons.You also would not need a focus puller. I do understand perception but you had a chance to make a statement.

This is so freakin cool! Seeing a feature made this way not only brings me back to the gritty, no-budget film shoot days - running around with my film school buddies in college - but it also gives me hope that directing and creating these films may not be as unattainable as I had previously thought. I think you’re 100% right in that the old school way of trying to make this career happen is probably only going to happen for a select few of REALLY lucky folks, or people who already have connections, but the rest of us gotta band together and take things into our own hands - even if it’s for the sake of art and storytelling alone. Cause not everyone is out here trying to cash flow Hollywood. Excellent video, great perspective. Thanks!
