The need for direct use of a phone is frustrating. As far as I can tell, DJI is the only company that has drones that can be flown without a phone by using the Smart Controller. After more than two years, I’m surprised DJI has not released a second generation.

It would be great if they could/would couple this with an Android 64 bit tablet with lots of ram. I guess it would then be similar to the Tripltek tablet and probably close to the same price. An interesting concept though. I see a place for this in the future for drone pilots.
