Great fan of Shelly Ann.
But claiming Syd was not consistent is completely made up.
So one is older than average and one much younger? So what
?
Sydney won every single time she raced at a time blow the WR of three years ago. She has every age record in the 400mH from 14 years on up.
What kind of consistency do we expect from a person who started 2022 as a 22 year old?
This debate is just torturing the data into confessing a personally desired outcome

I understand the point made regarding shelly's portfolio of wins this season as well as her age in addition to her 100m Gold medal. However to compare to ETH who won the 100 with an Olympic record, the 200m in a breathtaking 21.53 and then a Gold medal in 4x100 and who then went on to run 10.54, the closest we have ever been to Flo Jo is madness. Sydney's season albeit short was breathtaking. We are talking about a woman who ran 50. in the 400m hurdles and broke the WR not once but twice.. A time that going back 10 years would win most 400m circuit races outside of championship settings. That in itself is magnificent. No qualms with SAFPs season and you could argue that Amusan had an even greater chance given she ran the two fastest times over the 100m hurdles.

The greatest female sprinting season is flo-jo in 1988. Won double individual olympic gold and broke the world record in both the 100m and 200m. To add on to that she also won gold in the 4x100m and silver in the 4x400m. Btw 1988 was an olympic year making her achievement even more impressive.

Shelly 2022 season isn't even in the conversation for the greatest sprinting season because she didn't break the world record and even if you insist that 10.49 shouldn't be the world record, she still didn't break 10.54. Heck this season isn't even Shelly's best season, that is 2013 where she won a double gold in the 100m and 200m.

People need to stop being reactionary and falling for recency bias. If you ask shelly, she would tell you that she would trade all her consistency and 10.6s and 10.7s if it meant she broke the world record. No one is going to remember that you were consistent in a particular year, but a world record, now that is something.

Comparing Elaine 2021 to Shelly 2022 is just Laughable. Elaine had a much better season last year than Shelly had this year. Elaine won triple gold medal and ran the second fastest time of all time in the 100m and 200m.

Please dont compare Shelly to Elaine .Elaine is the only woman to defend 200m and 100m titles at an Olympic.Shelly only runs 100m Elaine does both.

Respectfully age is not a criteria in this , Shelly said she would run the WR she has not and also she ran 10.6 7 times running 10.67 5 times so she did not run a WR.

Shelly Ann was consistent with many world championship wins; however, Shelly Ann didn’t make any world record
She has longevity and consistency. She did wonderfully in comparison to those who ran the 100m
She didn’t win double Gold i.e. 100m and 200m and world record
As you recall Elaine (Thompson- Herah won the title because of world record and double Olympics and biND5mkWlfk&t=10m54s 10:54 )
The criteria for World Athletics is not about history, and how many medals. It’s the world record for the year

Saying that Shelly-Ann should’ve been awarded over McLaughlin is a very biased take. Consistency is important but it’s not everything. She broke no World records, no national records or even her PB. She was beaten by Shericka over the 100m as well. McLaughlin pushed the barrier; she broke her WR TWICE. That’s insane.

I'm disappointed with George trying to say that Shelly should be the Athlete of the Year! There should be no question about Sydney McLaughlin double world record! This was not a contest of consistency, 10.6 or how many world championship 100M shelly ran, it's about world record in 2022, and Shelly didn't ran any world record in 2022. I think sometime George need to hold his tongue on some things, and not muddy the water!!!...Kerrica Hill, should be the rising star for 20222

The world athletics did Shelly Ann dirty. She was clear favorite to win this award. We might never see anyone have such excellence in a single season at such age like we saw Shelly achieve this season.
A record is a record
She broke a championship record
Broke a world masters record
Won her 5th world title in an event so brutal
Ran on several meet circuit throughout the year and was world leader from beginning of season till the end.
Had 7 sub 10.70s times in a single season😱
Still ended the season on a high note with her 5th Diamond league title

She deserved this award
She was robbed!
