Germany approved the sale of BMP-1s (Pvb 501) from a Czech Company to Ukraine. These are former East German BMP-1s that were converted for the Swedish Armed Forces as such the name Pvb 501. It should be pointed out that while it has a better gearbox and traffic lights and no asbethos (which also reduces the fire resistance) they also removed the auto loader and the missile launcher which would be considered the primary anti tank weapon of the bmp 1. The thing also didn't shoot while in bdr hands cause nitrocellulose could enter the turret during firing which was deemed unsafe. It's combat effectiveness falls short of the russian bmp 1 if they even have them in service still.
Haven't such vehicles been death traps in Russian Army hands during its invasion of Ukraine?
