Because I needed a project to learn color grading and object tracking in my video editing software Davinci Resolve I took some 360 degree shots of one of my longer flights in Poland this year and add some comments via tracked call out titles. Its still a miracle to me that 400+ kg plane get pretty much lift from rising bubbles of warm air. In this very flight the winch released me at around 400 meters an I was able to reach 1000 meter mostly by circling over a huge black supermarket roof... My Schleicher K6 glider needed a bit of repair after some damage to the leading edge and compression on trailing edge. Watch the slides as the repair progresses using original plans and old style techniques. Yes, that's a Mitsubishi roofrack being used as tooling on the 2mm plywood with 45' grain angle.
On August 14th 2020 at 5:50 pm, while returning to Lone Pine (O26) after a 750 km flight in my Discus A (ZY), I encountered multiple severe downbursts directly over the airport. After observing condition on the ground, I planned to remain airborne and wait out the downburst surrounding the airport. Ultimately, I was forced to land shortly after arriving over the airport. In the final 3 minutes of flight, I lost 4,800’ of altitude. Please excuse all typos. Link to the flight trace 🤍

The feeling is just superb and insane at the same time. I loved it!
After heavy landings, ground loops and normal maintenance every year, the spar bushes on composite sailplanes need to be inspected for secure attachment to the wing. Sometimes we have found loose bushes have been missed. This video shows how to check the spar bush very easily.
It was experiential learning at its best when students in the Introduction to Unmanned Aerial Systems Design class helped assemble a sailplane brought to campus by retired Air Force and FedEx pilot, Steve Dee. #HandsOnLearning

This scratch built RC model sailplane is a smaller version of the Carl Goldberg Gentle Lady kit. The hi-start worked pretty well, however the bungees are a bit tight and I found by adding 4 or 5 large rubber bands it worked even better. Bungee and string length is something to experiment with. Swivel eyelets are good to use to prevent twisting and tangles in the line. The sailplane is 25 inches in length, wingspan of 46 inches with a 5.5 inch chord. It uses 2 mini servos for rudder and elevator control. I used a GWS R-4PII 4 channel FM receiver and a Futaba Skysport 4 transmitter. It’s basic balsa construction with dollar store tissue as the covering. Total weight with 4 AAA batteries is 223g.
Waves in the sky can be soared but to a paraglider pilot they are almost mythical as we can't really ever reach them. In a sailplane however, you can. I always wanted to soar wave, so up I went with a sailplane in a tandem. It was amazing!

I forgot to switch on the camera while un-bagging... In any case, this is what was coming out. I'm very happy with the result. The surface looks good and the structure is strong. The layers thickness was correct, so no steps on the surface, which is important for a stable instrument clamping. Next step will be to cut the hole for the V80, and after i will move on with sanding and finishing. Few holes will be cut at the very end, for the main switch, the flarm led, and the fixation holes to the cockpit structure. The last ones will be done after mating the panel with the rest of the cockpit, to make sure everything fits correctly. Circuit breakers are not on the panel in my case, so less struggless. Next time i promise to switch on the camera.
eSky ALBATROSS 2.6 metre POWERED GLIDER\SAILPLANE: ESSENTIAL RC FLIGHT TEST AVAILABLE HERE: 🤍 Literally takes 2 minutes to put this big glider together. Just slot the wings onto the spar which you insert into the fuselage, then slot the V tails onto the fuselage. Not many stickers/decals to apply...that does take another 2 minutes and then just a matter of dropping in the receiver. Construction of this glider is really nice quality. High density EPO foam mostly but with reinforcement and one nice touch was the reinforcement of the hinge line on the flaps and ailerons which from experience can tear very easily. In the air the power system certainly has lots of grunt on a good 4S pack. You need a minimum 3200 mah pack to get the recommended CG without adding more weight. The CG marks are clearly shown under the wing for quick reference check. You will see that Alex had no problem with hand launch. As long as all control surfaces are at neutral then it will pull out of the hand from a gentle throw for its first climb out. This glider is not especially light due to its dense foam construction so the power does have to be used frequently to get it back to altitude for another dive and roll...but it's a fraction of the price of an equivalent composite airframe so allowances should be made.
