In today's episode, we take you along on one of our craziest trips so far. Never in a million years did we think we'd go to Saudi Arabia this soon. Then, all of a sudden, we decided to just do it. We were hesitant to go given all we’ve read about the country. During our journey to 100 countries and beyond, we will undoubtedly visit countries where we don’t agree with certain laws or practices, and personally, we don’t want this to stop us from going. After all, how can we build understanding if we refuse to meet people, or are not open-minded enough to talk to someone who might disagree with us? We need more understanding, respect, and international cooperation, not greater divides. Our intention has always been to use our platform as a personal diary to look back on, and we want to take every opportunity we can to grow and learn more about the world. More videos from Saudi Arabia coming soon!🇸🇦 Thank you for always supporting us and being the best people on the planet🌍❤️ - FOLLOW US ON INSTAGRAM: 🤍instagram.com/oskaranddan - Music: 🤍 We are Oskar & Dan, two boys from Sweden who decided to change the course of our lives, drop out of university and live life full-time. We're planning to visit every country in the world eventually, with an initial goal of 100 before the end of 2022. By the time of posting this video, we're both 24 :) Saudi Arabia was country #83/197🌍 Thank you for watching!🙏😍❤️

The first definite evidence of human existence in the Arabian Peninsula dates back 15,000 to 20,000 years. Bands of hunter-gatherers wandered the land, surviving on wild animals and plants. As the European ice cap melted during the last Ice Age, some 15,000 years ago, the climate in the peninsula became dry. Vast plains once covered with lush grasslands gave way to scrubland and deserts, and wild animals vanished. River systems also perished, leaving behind the dry riverbeds that can still be found on the peninsula today. This climate change forced humans to move into the lush mountain valleys and oases. No longer able to survive as hunter-gatherers, they had to develop another means of survival. However, there is an odd activity taking place in Saudi Arabia's deserts. In the early 1960s, Saudi Arabia had only 400 square kilometers of productive ground, but today the kingdom has a large agricultural network of unusual-looking fields that allow farmers to cultivate a wide variety of crops and fruits. The transition of this desert into a green forest is undeniably amazing. Today, Saudi Arabia is one of the wealthiest nations on earth and the cultural center of the Muslim world. Vast oil fields have contributed to meteoric development and population growth. However, the Arabian Peninsula was not always home to such wealth. Until the 7th century, the city of Mecca was just another caravan post on the legendary Incense Route. Learn how one family took control of disparate desert tribes, united them through faith, and built the Saudi Arabia we know today. The video is a compilation of Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) National Anthem played in several Official Ceremonies. The anthem title is "Aas Al Malik" (عاش الملك) means "Long Live The King". The National Anthem of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was first officially adopted in 1950 without lyrics. It was then adopted again in 1984 with lyrics written by Ibrahim Khafaji. The original composition was by Abdul-Rahman al-Khateeb in 1947 and the brass instrumental version was later arranged by Seraj Omar. Saudi Arabia is building a futuristic city in the middle of a vast desert— from scratch. A vital element of the country's Vision 2030 plan, the project is the brainchild of Saudi's de facto leader, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, also known as MBS. The site covers an area of more than 10,000 square miles, about the same size as Massachusetts. And it could cost $500 billion to complete. "So Mohammed bin Salman wants to project himself as a liberal leader within the conservative royal family in Saudi Arabia," Ali Dogan, research fellow at the Leibniz-Zentrum Moderner Orient institute, told CNBC in an interview. "Neom is a mega project seen in Saudi Arabia and the young Saudi population as part of this liberalization process." The Neom project is far from without controversy, though. Critics say it's another attempt by the crown prince to improve his image after U.S. intelligence officials concluded he was behind the 2018 killing of journalist and Saudi dissident Jamal Khashoggi. It also is being seen by some as a way to distract attention from Saudi Arabia's human rights record. Watch the video above to find out why MBS is betting on this futuristic city. » Subscribe to CNBC: 🤍 » Subscribe to CNBC TV: 🤍 About CNBC: From 'Wall Street' to 'Main Street' to award winning original documentaries and Reality TV series, CNBC has you covered. Saudi Arabia has long been off limits to foreign tourists and travelers. Since a few months, however, it’s possible to visit the country on a tourist visa. I made use of this opportunity and traveled to Saudi Arabia for 2 weeks, including Riyadh, the Edge of the World, Jeddah, Medina, Al Ula, Umluj, and the Red Sea coast. In this video I travel to Riyadh, the capital city in the center of the country. After visiting a mosque for Friday prayer and eating lunch with the locals, I tour to modern shopping malls, museums, traditional bazaars, a construction site with migrant workers, the famous Sky Bridge Kingdom Tower, and finally the Riyadh Season Festival, designed to promote tourism and culture. While I spent almost 3 days in Riyadh, I comprised the video to make it into one single day. This is the first episode of a 6 part vlog style series about my journey through Saudi Arabia. For other episodes, please click here: Episode 2 - Journey to the Edge of the World: 🤍 Episode 3 - Medina as Non Muslim: 🤍 Episode 4 - Umluj Islands in the Red Sea: 🤍 Episode 5 - Camel Racing in Saudi Arabia: 🤍 Episode 6 - Jeddah City Tour: 🤍 Saudi Arabia is mostly known in the ‘Western world’ for its petroleum export, the birthplace of Islam, and unfortunately also poor human rights record. But as I discover there is much more to this massive country than first meets the eye. In these series I hope to give a glimpse into what was once an almost ‘forbidden place’ for independent travelers, and is now open for visitors from around the world. A country with enormous reserves of wealth, collected from almost a century of trading in oil and holding a monopoly on the world's hydrocarbon market. BUT... I would argue that the enormous economic power the Saudis built on the hydrocarbon market has doomed their country, as well as those of their neighbors in Qatar or the UAE. The holding of such a monopoly stagnated political development and therefore left these countries in a position of being ill-prepared for a world after oil.
