"Founded by Tullio Campagnolo, the company began in 1933 in a Vicenza workshop. The founder was a racing cyclist in Italy in the 1920s who conceived several ideas while racing, such as the quick-release mechanism for bicycle wheels, derailleurs, and the rod gear for gear changing. Campagnolo has been awarded more than 135 patents for innovations in cycling technology." - Wikipedia.org "At the end of the 1950s, Campagnolo started to manufacture magnesium parts such as wheels for sports cars like Alfa Romeo, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and Maserati, and built chassis for NASA satellites in 1969. In 1963, Campagnolo produced a disc brake for the Innocenti Lambretta TV motorscooter - the first two-wheel production vehicle with such a brake. In the 1970s they also supplied wheels for Ferrari's Formula One cars." Stating the obvious, Campagnolo has a long and storied history in road cycling, competitive or otherwise. Their components are organized as groupsets and are a near-complete collection of a bicycle's mechanical parts. Circa 2020 / 2021, Campagnolo's flagship components are the Super Record, Record, and Chorus groupsets with all three representing their recent shift to 12-speed drivetrains. Super Record and Record are the top groupsets, followed by Chorus, Potenza, Centaur, and Veloce. Late in 2020, Campagnolo entered the world of cycling components designed specifically for gravel cycling, with the world's first single chainring (1x) x 13-speed mechanical drivetrain. Meet Campagnolo Ekar. "Born on Mt Ekar, the 13-speed Campagnolo Ekar is not a conventional groupset. Ekar is the world’s lightest gravel groupset: reliable, durable, and fast. With a wide range, close-ratio, and no compromise, Ekar is designed from the ground up to give you the very best performance, riding experience, and reliability for gravel, all-road, and endurance riding on the toughest terrain where you want to face and challenge yourself. From the outset our engineers and design team tested and pursued the route of a 1x system being the best for gravel, and engaged with the challenge of creating the best possible implementation – and the light, efficient, precise 13-speed Ekar is what delivers." - Campagnolo.com JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew took delivery of Campagnolo Ekar on December 24, 2020, Christmas Eve, installed onto the ultra-slick / ultra-fast Ridley Kanzo Fast gravel bike. Since this time, JOM has put this bike and groupset through the proverbial wringer. Ridden in all manner of good and bad conditions, in the USA States of Florida, Georgia, Arkansas, New Mexico, Kansas, and Mississippi, this isn't your average run-of-the-mill review. 0:00 - Intro & Background on my use of these shoes 1:09 - Shoe Construction 2:09 - Sizing & Fit 3:43 - Overall Impressions: The Positives 7:42 - Overall Impressions: The Negatives 9:42 - Do You Need Gravel Specific Cycling Shoes? Back with another Lanky's Gear Guide video! Today, I'm doing a long-term review of my gravel specific cycling shoesthe Quoc Gran Tourer gravel bike shoes. I've owned these shoes for two years, and I have used them for a combination of road, gravel, and mountain biking. Since selling my road bike a year ago, these are my primary cycling shoe. In terms of sizing and fit, Quoc only sells in half European sizes which can make finding the right fit a bit tough. They also tend to fit a bit smaller than other shoes, but I have found my 42.5s tight but very comfortable. They can be a bit difficult to put on, but I really like the double-lock lacing setup which allows me to cinch the shoe tightly around my relatively narrow feet. In terms of positives, the Quoc Gran Tourers are classy looking, super comfortable, stiff enough for the majority of riders, and extraordinarily durable. I can't stress enough the comfort of these shoes. For tourers, explorers, and commuters, you will greatly appreciate the comfort these shoes provide while walking. Fortunately, this comfort does not come at the expense of performance. On the negative side, these shoes retain water. The shoe deflects light road spray very well and the cleat area is sealed against the elements. However, if water can't get in, it also can't get out. Once water gets in the top of the shoe, it's hard for the shoe to dry out during your ride. These shoes are also quite expensive, coming in at 219 GDP or $300 USD. I haven't had any issues with breathability, but I could see individuals who run hot possibly having some issues with shoe temperature on a hot day. Overall, I really like these shoes. They've held up well through two years of abuse. While I don't think gravel specific cycling shoes are necessary, these will make your gravel adventures significantly more enjoyable. Enjoy Your Ride! This is not a sponsored video. I own and use these shoes. To order them, head to 🤍 (not an affiliate link). Support the Channel: 🤍 #quoc #gravel #cyclingshoes

In episode #4 of his Shed Tech series, Cyclist's Tech Editor Sam Challis runs through the highlights of Campagnolo's Ekar 1x 13-speed gravel specific groupset. Ekar is the latest offering from the Italian groupset master and serves as its first foray away from the tarmac since its dip into mountain bike groupsets back in the late eighties. Campagnolo claims Ekar is the lightest 1x gravel groupset at 2,385g and at around £1500 is pretty competitive price-wise too. However Ekar's true headline-grabbing feature is its 13-speed cassette that includes both 9- and 10-tooth sprockets. They have necessitated the introduction of a new freehub standard, called N3W, which Campagnolo will be rolling out as standard for all its future groupsets and wheelsets so 13-speed may well be coming to a Campagnolo road groupset near you soon. It’s hardly been a big secret that Fox has been working on a new gravel-specific suspension fork — there have been leaks for months, after all — but it’s finally been unveiled for real, and we now know its official name: the 32 Taper-Cast. This isn’t Fox’s first gravel suspension fork, of course. It was five years ago that Fox released the 32 AX, or Adventure Cross. That was also touted as a gravel suspension fork, but in reality, it was little more than an obsolete cross-country mountain bike suspension model that was shortened and reconfigured to work for gravel bikes. Not surprisingly given its origins, it didn’t work all that well. It was heavy and bulky, it blew through its limited amount of travel far too easily, the tire clearance wasn’t very good, it didn’t accept standard gravel bike brake calipers or wheels, and if nothing else, it looked every bit like the mismatched frankenfork that it was. In contrast, this new 32 Taper-Cast is genuinely purpose-built for the task, and it’s far, far better as a result.

"Ready to rock the gravel! The SKS SPEEDROCKER mudguard made of high-performance impact-resistant plastic was designed especially for gravel, cyclocross and racing bikes with disc brakes. A special feature is the dual spoiler function on the front mudguard, which is fastened with rubberised hook and loop fasteners. The rear mudguard also ensures perfect splash protection thanks to the telescopic extension profile and is fixed in place with sturdy rubber straps." - SKS Germany "Flexible Fastening System for any Geometry" "The fastening system with flexible flaps can be mounted on the frame to suit any geometry. Integrated U-stays with an ESC safety system not only ensure a clean look, but also maximise the available clearance between the tyre and mudguard." • Made of high-performance impact-resistant plastic • Dual spoiler function at the front • Telescopic extension profile at the rear • Ideal for gravel and racing bikes with disc brakes • Made in Germany In this video, JOM of the Gravel Cyclist crew presents a review by Todd, one of the two blokes in the driveway. :) Written review of the SKS Speedrocker is also available on the Gravel Cyclist Website - 🤍 SKS Germany Website - 🤍 Click to purchase from Amazon - 🤍 Links of Interest: Pivot Vault Gravel Bike Review - 🤍 Panaracer Gravelking SK Tire Review - 🤍 2021 Tour of the Quilt Country VIII: The Velcro Road Edition - 🤍 2021 Gravel Challenge: Gainesville, FL, 49F, Rain & Sludge - 🤍 Gravel Cyclist's Route Library - 🤍 Amazon Affiliation Link: No cost to you, but every purchase made helps keep Gravel Cyclist up and running! - 🤍 Web: 🤍 Facebook: 🤍 Instagram - 🤍 Twitter - 🤍
"Low Bicycles is a small-scale manufacturer of some of the finest hand-crafted aluminum bicycle frames out there. We build bicycles that are desirable not simply because they are handmade in the U.S.A., but because they are well built, fast, beautiful, and above all else, capable of performing at the highest levels. We constantly strive to improve our bikes by growing and evolving with the cycling community that supports us. We invest countless hours in designing, testing, and most importantly, racing our frames in the real world. Through this process, we are irrevocably elevating cyclists’ perceptions of what a high-quality aluminum bicycle can be." - Andrew Low, Low Bicycles - 🤍 "While the first two bikes in the MK Road Series are all business, this new addition is our most laid back and versatile bike in the lineup. That said, it wouldn’t be a LOW// if it wasn’t made to go fast. The MKIII Gravel Road is designed for long days in the saddle and exploring strange new (or old) roads at any speed you can handle." "The MKIII road frame employs a similar custom extruded and shaped tubeset to the other frames in the MK Road Series, with some key, gravel specific differences. Smaller seat stays for more compliance and increased clearance in the chainstays, to allow for a wide range of tire sizes. Our gravel specific geometry features lower bottom bracket and slacker head tube angle for stability on larger tires on the open road. Taller head tube stack allows for a more relaxed riding position." The year is coming to a close and that means it’s time to sit around the metaphorical fire to discuss our favourite gravel bike products during 2021. We never stop testing the latest gravel bike gear, and while this year has seen challenges in production and availability, 2021 was no different. Unlike previous years, we have decided that there are enough gravel specific products on the market that it deserves it’s own gear of the year video. We’ve selected smaller gadgets and gear and these are our absolute favourites. Some we could not live without and others we just kept coming back to. What did you think of our picks? Did one of your favourites make the list? What were your go-to products in 2021?
