I started this project because I thought it'd be really funny if I managed to make a 3 key osu keypad before lotuspro did. Baffling Project is open sourced now! 🤍 I'm still very new to all of this, and to be honest, using qmk is just an easy and quick way to create a keyboard. But for something like osu, I think a custom firmware is more appropriate, though for that, development will take quite a lot more especially since I know nothing. Stuff like breadboards and slowly working up with AVR programming. I did try my hand at writing my own firmware with the guidance of Thomazzz3, Xeal and lame (thank you guys for being so patient!) and it's really NOT beginner friendly at all. So whatever Chris said about being able to write his own firmware in a week is honestly rubbish. Previously, most players have seen a common preference to the HyperX Alloy Origins, which was dubbed "the cheaterboard" by the osu community, but just because the keyboard was the common preference doesn't mean that it gives an inherent advantage. Enter Wooting keyboards. Wooting keyboards have analog switches, and within those analog switches comes a unique feature known as rapid trigger. At first, it was just seen as a dumb gimmick, but then clips emerged of players hitting super fast streams upwards of 300bpm, and then all hell broke loose. Immediately, the keyboard went from an afterthought to by far the most controvesial peripheral in osu history, which led to a lot of people hating it. Some top speed players like Sytho and roaz decided to give the keyboard a chance, and have made good progress with it. Is this keyboard the gateway into becoming the speed player of your dreams, or is it all just a figment of our imagination? If you are having issues with double or more tapping at once, read this: I found that putting tape (for example the usual transparent thin tape) over each coin is a good way to stop it from going wild. Keep the tapes seperated and do the serial monitor method again if it goes crazy. You can also add some values to each capacitive threshold (+1 everytime seemed to work fine for me). What you'll need: 2 wires, two 1 million Ohm resistors (can vary, i find 1 million Ohm quite reliable), 2 metal conductors (such as coins or aluminum foil), a micro usb-cable (any brand, doesn't matter) and the Arduino Leonardo board (can differ though i dont not know if it works with a different one) Steps: 1. Connect the wires to the resistors, one on each side. 2. Put the resistors in the pins of the Arduino board. 3. Install the software (Arduino IDE) if you have not already. 4. Add the capacitive sensor library to Arduino IDE (as shown). 5. Unzip the Kappa pad zip file und run Kappapad.ino 6. Once open, choose your correct board (as shown) and select the correct pin order where you inserted your resistors into. 7. Plug in your Arduino Leonardo board and upload kappapad (as shown). If your keypad keeps pressing any letters, for example X or Y, it means most likely that the position of your pins do not match with what you put into the kappapad script, try switching the numbers around. 8. If your keypad is still sane up until this point, next thing we want to figure out is the Capacitive Treshold for each key. To do this, you delete the two lines (//) before define SERIAL_OUTPUT and upload the file again. 9. Head over to Tools and select serial monitor. Change the Baud to 115200. You'll be seeing two different values constantly getting spammed. Stop autoscroll and see which value is put out the most (in my case it was 15 for the first one and 19 for the other, so it showed 15,19) 10. Take each of these numbers, add 1 (so 16,20 for me) and put them before the comma next to //Capacitive Treshold. 11. Change the //Keyboard Key for what you want it to be registered as. 12. After you are completely satisfied with how the script looks like by now, add the two lines (//) to define SERIAL_OUTPUT (looks like this //define SERIAL_OUTPUT) and don't forget to upload. 13.
