Norse Mythology/The Norse Gods have had a profound impact upon civilisation, with tales of Odin, Thor, Loki, Borr, Surt, Mimir, Freya and Tyr captivating audiences since creation. The first realm to form was Muspellsheim in the south, a bright land, engulfed in fire and guarded by Surt with his flaming sword. To the north formed Niflheim, the freezing land of fog, containing the spring Hvergelmir, from where the primordial rivers began to flow. From driftwood, Odin and his brothers created new life. Odin gifting them breath and life, Vili intelligence and feeling and Ve form, speech, hearing and sight. Thus, the first humans were born, a man and a woman, Ash and Elm. They were given a home in Midgard and it is here where humans still reside to this day. These life rules are based on the Hávamál, a collection of old Norse poems from the Viking age. Legend tells us that they were written by the deity Odin himself. There are 8 poems in total each covering different areas. The short verses teach us about love, travelling, manhood and daily living. I have extracted the lessons from this text to write 24 original rules for life. The poems of the Hávamál include: Wisdom for Wanderers and Counsel to Guests, Maxims for All Men, Lessons for Lovers, Odin's Love Quests, Odin's Quest after the Song Mead, The Counseling of the Stray-Singer, Odin's Quest after the Runes and The Song of Spells Read the Hávamál here: 🤍 Narrated by Nicky Rebelo Music: Viking Sword by Marcus Bressler

Norse Atlantic Airways B787-9 Premium Class. This was the inaugural flight of Norse from London Gatwick to New York JFK on August 12, 2022. The route is served by a B787-9 which has 338 seats configured in two classes with 282 economy passengers and 56 premium economy.. The 56 Premium seats are in eight rows of 2-3-2 at the front of the aircraft. The configuration is 2-3-2 (AC -DEF GJ). These are comfortable armchair-type seats, The seat has a pitch of 43 inches and 12 inches of recline (the B787s have 46 inches in Premium) and has a utilitarian grey leather covering with antimacassars with the Norse logo on them. When you buy your ticket, you’ll find (as with many low-cost carriers) that there are various ways of spending more than the headline fare. Seat selection seems to cost between £30 and £75, depending on the seat (window seats are more expensive). The system also says that all the seats are ‘extra legroom’, which might make you feel better about paying to select them, but isn’t true for most of them unless it means extra compared to the legroom in economy. If you buy a Premium Plus ticket, then seat selection is included. Bear in mind also that if any Premium seats are unsold, just before take-off, economy passengers are invited to pay for an upgrade, so even if the doors shut and the seat next to you is vacant, it may not remain that way. Business Traveller Review 🤍 Transcript: Hello, Tom Otley here, editor of Business Traveller. Welcome to the latest of our flight reviews. Today we're on the new Norse service between the London Gatwick and New York JFK. The cabin on this B787-9 has a total of 338 seats, and that's 282 in economy and 56 in their premium cabin. The premium economy cabin, where I am for this flight, is in a 232 configuration, and that's set up as AC, DEF, and GJ. So if you want a window seat, you're going for either the A seat, or the J seat. And bear in mind, most of these seats are similar, obviously the front row, you are gonna get more leg room, and weirdly enough, row five has a slightly impaired view, there's not a window there, and of course that might suit you but it's something to bear in mind if you're hoping to look out of the window during the journey. The seat's very comfortable, it's got a gray leather exterior but it's got a seat pitch of 43 inches, and 12 inches of recline for when you want to go to sleep. It's possible to recline the seat without causing too much disruption to the person behind, but really, you would wait until they'd had their meal and done some work, and then pretty much everyone reclines their seats together. And you can tell when that's gonna happen, because between the meal services say, on the way to New York, there's a period in the middle of the flight when people tend to watch the in flight entertainment and just relax. So just demonstrating the in-flight entertainment, which comes out like this, mine's a squeaky one, and there's a control down here as well. The in-flight entertainment system is a good one. The choice is to get information on the flight, to watch TV, movies, there's also the chance to plug in phone through a USB and you can plug in the headphones via the jack. The headphones or earphones, really earbuds, cost if you are in economy, but they're distributed for free or as part of the fare in premium economy. As part of the premium economy experience, you are given a blanket and also some earbuds, which plug into the IFE system. You'll also be offered a drink on arrival, once you get on the plane and that's a soft drink, it's either apple juice, orange juice or water. And then after takeoff there's a drinks service, and that's when you have the choice of alcohol or non-alcohol. There's no sparkling wine, but there is red wine, white wine, beer, soft drinks, and also no-alcohol beer, and a load of different fruit juices. As far as the food is concerned, you get a main meal choice of either, on this flight, chicken and rice and vegetable, or salmon with potato mash and spinach. I didn't have either of those because I pre-ordered a special meal. And my vegan choice was Asian noodles and tofu. That was very tasty. From the people I spoke to across the aisle who'd had both the chicken and the salmon, they said the salmon was the one to go with, so that's salmon with potato mash and spinach, that's the meal choice for this flight. If you want to have more drinks, you get one drink before the meal, you get a second one with that main meal, and then a third one with the final meal. But if you want to drink in between, either soft drinks or alcohol, they are for sale. Wines are about $9 to 11.50, although if you want some champagne, that's 13.50, and beers are around $7, the beers are Carlsberg. There's also an India Pale Ale for $8. So we've got the table here, it's as you'd expect, under the arm...

A Viking war song about Úlfhéðnar, wolf warriors and Odin's elite fighting forces. Úlfhéðnar were totemistic combat heroes who were feared for their unique martial skills and their ecstatic fierceness, which they would fuel by performing shapeshifting rituals and weapons dances. Úlfhéðnar considered wolves as sacred, and their spirituality consisted in incarnating the spirit of the Wolf in order to acquire its power and primal wisdom. Surviving in the wilderness, fasting, resisting extreme temperatures, living in the manner of the Wolf and learning its ways was part of the Úlfhéðinn shamanic and military initiation. This song was 100% self-composed with REAPER. Every single vocal sound you can hear was made with my own voice (singing and throat-singing, whisperings, shouts, growls, percussive breaths, etc). I am greatly inspired by Wardruna, one of my favourite band. Most of the lyrics come from the Haraldskvæði, a 9th century skaldic poem, and from the Völuspá, first poem of the Poetic Edda. Note: I'm by no means a speaker of the Old Norse language and I know my pronunciation is certainly quite flawed, but please note that I tried to educate myself as best as I could for the song. I hope you enjoy! If you want to buy it: 🤍 _ Here are the lyrics: Úlfhéðnar... Úlfhéðnar... At bersærkja ræiðu vil ec spyrja Úlfhéðnar hæita, þæir er í orrostu blóðgar rander bera vigrar rjóða er til vígs coma þæim er þar síst saman Úlfa nú geyr mjök Yfir skógar, yfir Miðgarð þruma... Glymur! Sønner åt Úlfr... Eg helsar Óðinn Óðinn! Fylgja... Frægiligr Fylgja... Yfir skógar, geyr Úlfr mjök Yfir skógar, geyr Úlfr mjök Vindöld Vargöld! Enn himinn klofnar af þruma! Sceggöld Scálmöld! Mun engi maðr öðrom þyrma! _ "Wolf-warriors..." "Wolf-warriors..." "I should like to ask thee of the position of the berserkir." "Wolf-coats are they called, Who bear bloody shields in battle. They redden their spears when they come to the fight, And then they act all in a body." "Now the wolves howl vigorously, Across the forests, across Midgard" "Thunder roars!" "Sons of the Wolf" "Hail to Odin" "Odin!" "O Guardian Spirit, honourable Follower" "Across the forests, the Wolf greatly howls" "Across the forests, the Wolf greatly howls" "Age of the Wind, Age of the Wolf!" "Thunder splits the skies open!" "Age of the Axe, Age of the Sword!" "No man shall show mercy to another!" _ There will be more Norse/Viking songs in the future! Norse Trip Report flying from Oslo to Los Angeles onboard one of the Norse Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on a perfect summer day. A really comfortable flight from Oslo to Los Angeles onboard the Norse Boeing 787 Dreamliner. Norse Atlantic is a new long-haul low-cost airline that basically took the Norwegian long-haul model and renamed it. It's fair to say that Norse Atlantic is a "Norwegian long-haul v2.0". So, Norse Atlantic is a low-cost airline, therefore consider everything I say about them from that point of view. We departed on time from Oslo in a northbound direction. Just after takeoff, we made a left turn to start our flight to Los Angeles. The flight couldn't start better: there were 0 clouds over Norway today, so we could see perfectly all the mountains and fiords before entering the North-Atlantic ocean. After almost 2:30h of clouds, we finally spotted Greenland. It is not as spectacular as in winter when absolutely everything is frozen, but wow! It was still amazing. Lots of icebergs, glaciers, sharp canyons and high cliffs. Greenland is one of the most beautiful places I've ever seen from a plane. From Greenland, we flew another hour over the Baffin bay (North Atlantic Ocean) on course to Canada. Sadly, we couldn't see almost anything of it, as we had high clouds all the way. About the onboard service, as a low-cost, Norse Atlantic has a buy-on-board menu but also offers the option to buy online normal food options, as in any other long-haul airline. I decided to book online both the main meal and the pre-landing light meal. There were 2 options onboard: fish or chicken. I went for the chicken option, which was coming with arrabbiata sauce and some vegetables. It was quite tasty but the portion was too small in my opinion. Luckily, there were some extra meals onboard and I was able to purchase a second one. Much better for a 10h+ flight. Now it's your turn! Have you ever flown with Norse Atlantic? Which route? How was the experience? What do you think about the low-cost long-haul operation? Do you think it will survive? Or will it end like the Norwegian attempt? Have you ever been to Los Angeles? Maybe in Oslo? Lots of things to talk about! Read you all in the comments! ✈ BECOME A MEMBER! Join the OnBoardHD crew and support your favorite channel! Since 2005, when God of War first made its debut on the PS2, right up till now, with God of War Ragnarok on the PS5 and PS4, the series has had a knack for interpreting its mythological inspirations in very interesting ways. This was, of course, true for the Greek era games as well, but God of War (2018) in particular was widely lauded for the ingenious spin it often put on so many of the Norse myths it interpreted, from the death of Baldur being caused by mistletoe to the fact that Atreus is actually Loki. Unsurprisingly, God of War Ragnarok does plenty of that as well. At the same time, just like its predecessors, it doesn't feel bound to the material that has inspired it by any means, which means "mythological accuracy", if such a thing even exists, is far from a priority, and if and where the game feels the need to completely go in a different direction, it does that without hesitation. Here, we're going to take a look at a few key examples of both, moments where it interprets Norse myths with its own unique spin on them, and moments where it decides to go completely off-script and do its own thing.

Norse is a brand new ultra-low-cost budget airline that flies between North America and Europe. They are the replacement for Norwegian airlines which stopped its trans Atlantic flights.
Links to videos with sources 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍 🤍 Online Shop 🤍 Patreon 🤍 Norse or Scandinavian mythology is the body of myths of the North Germanic peoples, stemming from Norse paganism and continuing after the Christianization of Scandinavia, and into the Scandinavian folklore of the modern period. The northernmost extension of Germanic mythology and stemming from Proto-Germanic folklore, Norse mythology consists of tales of various deities, beings, and heroes derived from numerous sources from both before and after the pagan period, including medieval manuscripts, archaeological representations, and folk tradition. The source texts mention numerous gods, such as the hammer-wielding, humanity-protecting thunder-god Thor, who relentlessly fights his foes; the one-eyed, raven-flanked god Odin, who craftily pursues knowledge throughout the worlds and bestowed among humanity the runic alphabet; the beautiful, seiðr-working, feathered cloak-clad goddess Freyja who rides to battle to choose among the slain; the vengeful, skiing goddess Skaði, who prefers the wolf howls of the winter mountains to the seashore; the powerful god Njörðr, who may calm both sea and fire and grant wealth and land; the god Freyr, whose weather and farming associations bring peace and pleasure to humanity; the goddess Iðunn, who keeps apples that grant eternal youthfulness; the mysterious god Heimdallr, who is born of nine mothers, can hear grass grow, has gold teeth, and possesses a resounding horn; the jötunn's son, the god Loki, who brings tragedy to the gods by engineering the death of the goddess Frigg's beautiful son Baldr; and numerous other deities. Most of the surviving mythology centers on the plights of the gods and their interaction with several other beings, such as humanity and the jötnar, beings who may be friends, lovers, foes, or family members of the gods. The cosmos in Norse mythology consists of Nine Worlds that flank a central sacred tree, Yggdrasil. Units of time and elements of cosmology are personified as deities or beings. Various forms of a creation myth are recounted, where the world is created from the flesh of the primordial being Ymir, and the first two humans are Ask and Embla. These worlds are foretold to be reborn after the events of Ragnarök when an immense battle occurs between the gods and their enemies, and the world is enveloped in flames, only to be reborn anew. There the surviving gods will meet, and the land will be fertile and green, and two humans will repopulate the world. Norse mythology has been the subject of scholarly discourse since the 17th century, when key texts attracted the attention of the intellectual circles of Europe. By way of comparative mythology and historical linguistics, scholars have identified elements of Germanic mythology reaching as far back as Proto-Indo-European mythology. During the modern period, the Romanticist Viking revival re-awoke an interest in the subject matter, and references to Norse mythology may now be found throughout modern popular culture. The myths have further been revived in a religious context among adherents of Germanic Neopaganism.
