There are so many beautiful spots in the Philippines that I feel we haven't taken the time to explore yet. The Battle of Surigao Strait was the largest clash of warships of World War II. Japanese, American and Australian forces engaged at night in the last great naval battle between big gun "dreadnaughts". Among the lineup was the Australian heavy cruiser HMAS Shropshire and the destroyer HMAS Arunta. Here veterans describe the lead-up to the historic battle and the roles they played in history's final clash of battleship titans. Part of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, Surigao was fought on the night of October 24 and 25. Except for the USS Mississippi, all the battleships that took part were damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor in December 1941.

We want to share the WHOLE story of what happened on the M/V Vince Gabriel boat on September 25, 2022. FYI: This was in the middle of our 10-day Mindanao Province-Hopping tour and we normally create travel videos and travel vlogs in every province we go to, so it just so happened that we we filmed this entire boat experience on the way to Surigao. The boat ride was from San Jose, Dinagat Islands to Surigao City, the waves were so big that the outrigger was smashed by the waves, and it cracked. Eventually when the waves got bigger, the entire outrigger was completely ripped off, and we were still 30 minutes away from the shore. Praise God, we safely made it to Surigao City port and nobody was hurt. Special thanks to all the boat crew, all the staff, and most importantly the BOAT CAPTAIN for taking control and letting us arrive safely!

But, I decide to take it slow and do a little bit of exploring along the way. Checking out the coast in Lingig, I found myself chatting to a Filipino from Davao, who had family living in the fishing community. His English was amazing, and when I asked why? Because his job used to be working in a call center! Really, that is one of the best jobs for developing English speaking skills. Total respect to him. From Lingig, I find myself in Bislig. Sharing the return trip barko vlog from San Jose, Dinagat Islands to Surigao City. I am onboard M/V NEWS MPC Island Navigator 4 the newest and fastest fleet in the company. For this trip it only took us 1 hour to cross San Jose to Surigao City in a fully airconditioned vessel. They did not check any requirement like vaccination cards even face mask before boarding the vessel. It already feels like it is back to normal. NEDA cancels 3 large bridge projects Published By Chino S. Leyco The national government will take off undoable large infrastructure out of the list of flagship projects being eyed by the Duterte administration for implementation. In a briefing, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto M. Pernia said yesterday that an initial three large bridge projects included in the original 75 flagship list will be removed, and substituted by smaller-scale roads, bridges and irrigation projects. “What we have done is to pick out certain projects that are impossible to meet given the technology, engineering, or maybe the technology is available somewhere but we don’t have to build on very deep waters and long bridges,” Pernia said. Among the unfeasible infrastructure projects initially identified by Pernia for removal were the proposed Luzon-Samar, Leyte-Surigao, and Cebu-Bohol link bridges which would cost roughly ₱161.1 billion. He explained these three projects alone were “very challenging and costly” to implement within the remaining term of President Duterte, which ends in June 2022. “About three bridges, big projects, have been taken out and substituted with smaller projects, but then as I’ve said, game changing for the regions,” the NEDA chief said. Pernia, meanwhile, said the government will include in the revised flagship projects those that are under the Public-Private Partnership scheme, like the Bulacan airport and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport rehabilitation. Pernia said the government will release next week its revised infrastructure list consisting of 100 large and small scale infrastructure projects. The new list will still include regional airports and projects in information and communications technology, water, power and urban renewal. To date, only nine out of the current 75 flagship projects were undergoing construction, and only two projects had been finished.
